Brief Description:  Main Bulkhead assembly - checking

I am thrilled to be using the new LSA manual for two reasons. I get to check my previous work and make some changes that make a lot of sense. In addition I am finding the new manual to be a lot easier to follow, not least because the dark photos are replaced with detailed 3-D drawings.

In Section 2.1 I had to reverse the direction of the AN4-24 bolt that serves as the axle for the Tail Extension Cable Pulley. The action of reversing it proves why this should be done. It can't be removed from the inboard side without unbolting the Bulkhead Diagonal Tube, but it can from the outboard side. I put some grease on the pulley ends and made sure it spun easily. The 'old' manual makes no mention of the Torque Tube Bearing Shim #2710-031 and the 'new' manual specifies longer AN4-31A bolts to accomodate it. Will have to order the shim from PA.

In Section 2.4 the 'new' manual specifies shorter AN4-30A bolts and Thin Nus to secure the Bulkhead Side Assemblies to the Bulkhead Cross Tubes. This provides more clearance to the nearby nuts. The Bulkhead Diagonal Tubes also require longer AN4-43A bolts at each end to accomodate 2 more plastic spacers at each end, but dispenses with the Thin Nut. This provides more clearance for the the Electric Gear Actuators.

In Section 2.5 the limit switches in the Electric Gear Actuators are given a rough adjustment. Mine are already in the bulkhead and in the hull so access is difficult, extremely so on the co-pilot side! Now drilled AN6-33 bolts are used to secure the top and bottom ends of the Retraction Bars which makes sense as they are rotating joints, so more bolts to order. And the top ends of the Electric Gear Actuators now require two Alumininum Spacers 1/2" long instead of one 1/4" and one 3/4" per the "old" manual, to better centre the actuator I suppose.

In Section 2.6 the four Micro Switches are mounted for the Electric Gear Actuators. However the ones supplied with my kit, #2910-009, don't quite look the same as the #1500-015 refered to in the manual.
