Number of Hours:  18.00
Manual Reference:  Section 18F
Brief Description:  Horizontal Stabilizers - Fabric

Lots of manhours were consumed today as Steve's son, Kevin, was intitiated into the hallowed traditions of Hangar X.
First step was to correct the deficiency in the earlier placement of the foam strips on the horizontal stabilizer ribs that was pointed out by the government inspector. Done.
It has become apparent that the editing of the Searey manual leaves something to be desired as the writer was a little too quick in using the 'cut and paste' technique. For example, step 60.3 refers to 'lower' and 'upper' tubes which don't exist in a horizontal stabilizer. This is the exact same line as in step 70.3 of Section 18G (Vertical Stabilizer). A minor error but frustrating when you are moving along at speed and trusting the book to be correct. Warning taken...
As before we are being generous in applying the Linear Tape so did take the optional step of applying it over the ribs in step 63.
Using the iron to 'bend' the fabric and tapes around the tube bends is not working as well as I remember it doing when I took the Poly-Fiber workshop at the Oshkosh airshow. So we are more and more not bothering to even try and are cutting darts instead. Hey, this is an amateur build, isn't it?
