I'm spending the week at the EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2015 fly-in, convention and airshow. It's been a real learning experience as I have attended training forums on many aspects of building your own plane, talked to numerous vendors about equipment I need to buy, walked miles around the grounds checking out everything that flies from drones to the B-52, watched the spectacular flying shows and talked, talked and talked some more to like-minded people.
But the best experience has been the Searey LSA demo flight I took from the Seaplane Base with Kerry Richter, Progressive Aerodyne's president and the plane's designer. The video on YouTube under tag ppUH7HIZtl8 says it all.
25 July update: I went back to the Seaplane Base today. Apparently the Searey guys including Kerry had seen my video and thought it was alright. He was good enough then to talk to me for almost an hour on all aspects of building the Searey (fabric covering, fuel systems, avionics, anti-corrosion, wiring), the future (4-seater?) and the competition (now and concept).
The two hours flying and yakking with Kerry made the this week long trip totally worthwhile. All the rest was icing on the cake.
