Brief Description:  Fuel Tank Installation

My kit came with the new style 23 gallon fuel tank (part #2381--037), a replacement sender (Boater Sports 6"-24") and instructions entitled "Chapter 5 Fuel Assembly". I started by installing the Fuel Tank Angle, Forward following the 'old' instructions' step 12 and then switched to the 'new instructions' Chapter 5 to prep the tank with the fittings. I know from talking to Glen in Nelson, BC, who along with Bob is a couple of months ahead of me, that I will likely have to realign these fittings when I plumb in the electric fuel pump and gascolator (required in Canada).
Steve joined me to slide the tank into the fuselage and hang it in the strap.
Chapter 5.2 page 2/5 calls for a Center Tank Support Spacer which was not provided. Its purpose is not apparent. I will see if I can find a piece of UHMW plastic to insert, if I determine that it is actually required.
Chapter 5.2 page 5/9 calls for two Fender Washers, #10x1" SS (FW100-10) but none were provided in the kit so we used two Fender Washers, 1/4"x1" SS that worked just fine. While writing this up hours later, I noticed that this is the washer called for in the 'old' instructions anyway.
Chapter 5.3 was a complete wipe-out as the Fuel Tank Support Plate (#XXXX-XXX) was not provided and doesn't look particular useful anyway; and the two AN4-25A bolts to secure the Fuel Tank Angle, Aft were also not provided and definitely are needed. Time to call it a day.
The weather here in the Great White North has been unseasonably mild the past few weeks (0 - 4C). This makes it more comfortable to work in the hangar, except the snow on the roof is melting and leaking through onto the floor (see photo 2). This is ok during the early part of the build, but will need fixing when the spring weather permits.
