Brief Description:  Linseed oil protection - fuselage components

I was hoping to avoid the messy and time consuming process of coating the inside of all the tubular items with boiled linseed oil as an anti-corrosion process. I do plan to fly off the salt water so corrosion is a concern but the SeaRey's metal components are aluminum, not rust-prone steel! I know that the aircraft industry has a long history of protecting steel tubing with boiled linseed oil but I couldn't find any reference to any airplane manufacturer protecting aluminum tubing with this method. I know lots of boats live their lives on saltwater having aluminum hulls but I could find no reference here either to using boiled linseed oil. Of course they do use sacrificial anodes and I didn't find any of those listed in my inventory sheets when I received my SeaRey kit.
I asked a few people with build logs about this, as well as Rob Loneragan the Australian dealer, and they were emphatic that corrosion will attack unprotected aluminum components after a period of time of salt water exposure, probably in concert with the nearby non-aluminum parts.
OK, ok, I'll do it. So I have started with the tubular components in the large fuselage box that I dragged home from the hangar. This is going to be quite a process as it will be impossible to do at the hangar where firstly the tape won't stick to the sub-zero metal parts and secondly the linseed oil will likely never harden up. Oh well, one hurdle at a time. I am sure I will be happy to have done this once I get through it... next summer!
I worked no more than an hour a day at taping holes, swishing around the linseed oil inside the tubes, pouring out, standing up to dry, then next day turning over for another day drying, removing the tape and cleaning the sticky residue off. Messy work but not too onerous as I spread it out through the week. All of the long fuselage box tubular items are done now, plus the seat frames.
