Brief Description:  The plane cave

Being resource based, Mack-Town's economic well being is very cyclical. The last ten years have not been kind but with forestry, mining and natural gas all back in play (and maybe even another @#$% dam on the reservoir), or at least looking promising, the town is struggling to her feet. With a 5,000 foot long hard-surfaced runway the local airport was once the site of some activity. But with no scheduled flight service now and more buildings shuttered than occupied the airport is a bit forlorn. There must have been a pretty active flying club at one time, but the only remnant of that is the 240' x 32' timber framed hanger building. In its individual bays there is not one flying airplane, perhaps two in 'rebuild' and a whole pile of people's 'stuff'.
This is a perfect situation for me to build and house my seaplane to be. I obtained Hangar #1 on 22 November 2014 with a minimum of fuss, cash and time. The local weather can get shockingly cold (record lowest is -45C) and snow typically starts falling in October and could last until May, leaving only 4 months for poor sledding.
My hangar is one of the 'improved' ones of the six, having a natural gas radiant heater over the sliding hangar door and insulated & paneled walls and roof. Unfortunately it also has some lesser attributes like a leaking roof and sliding hangar doors that don't slide - see the photo for my jury rigged door opening mechanism. But hey that's what all the tools I have bought are for, aren't they?
Here's hoping my kit arrives before the deep snow does and I can get her inside, close the big doors... then after a period of hibernation (2 winters?) out she comes into the waiting sun, to slip the surly bounds of earth!
