Brief Description:  Where in the world is Mackenzie, BC?

Located not far from the geographic centre of the Canadian province of British Columbia, Mackenzie is a natural resource driven town on the shores of the Williston Reservoir. Created when the 'Wacky' Bennett dam was constructed in the '60s the reservoir actually doesn't seem to have shores, with the dam draw downs (the locals call them 'tides') of up to 60 feet the area where the water meets the forests is not very hospitable. A plan to harvest the standing timber before the flooding of Parsnip and Finlay Rivers using massive diesel-electric powered tree crushers failed ignomiously and the plethora of snags in the areas of changing shallower water are a bane to boaters, and dare I say, to seaplanes.
Born and raised in BC I left my home country ten years ago to work overseas, and incidentally learnt to fly. Last year while vacationing in Australia, and near the end of my expat tenure, I took flying boat lessons with Ken Bowe in his Lake Amphibian out of Gympie (yes, Gympie) and went up for a flip over Sydney Harbour with Ben Hunter in his stunning Searey. If I wasn't already, I was then hooked on seaplanes.
So here I be, back in Canada, working in Sir Alexander Mackenzie's namesake, and waiting for my SeaRey LSX to arrive in its box. Scheduled for pick-up from the Tavares, Florida factory tomorrow, 15th December, it should be sliding down the chimney on the 25th!
