Brief Description: Fitting Attach Angles and Tanks Skins
I wish someone would put together a primer on techniques for each step in the plans. I spent a lot of time today trying to figure out the Z brackets and ended up ordering a whole new set because the first set didn't work out. There is a method on Van's Airforce called the Hurlbut or Chickoway method. That method is much better but I didn't know about it until it was too late.
Today I attempted to finish the Z brackets by drilling the final outboard inboard bracket. Unfortunately, or fortunately as the case may be, the holes ended up with too little edge distance and so I scrapped them. I ordered new brackets from Vans. I also did a trial run of the Hurlbut method with my current brackets and I think it will work great! Basically it entails match drilling the brackets to the baffle and then back drilling the brackets through the spar. It will end up with a much better match of the tank to the leading edge.
I also separated all the tank stiffeners with the band saw, cleaned up the edges and then match drilled them to the tank skins. That took a lot of time!
