Brief Description:  Alternator Belts

At lunch today I ran over to NAPA and picked up what I thought would get me the correct belt for the Alternator. I picked up 7330, 7335, 7340 and 7345 which are 33, 33.5, 34, and 34.5 inch belts. The guy said they would get me what I needed. I even had a rope which we used to measure the lenght, sorta. Well, none of them were long enough, even the 7345 was about 3/4" short. I will return them and get 7350, 7355, 7360 and a 7365 just to make sure this time. The guy said I could bring back the ones that don't fit. I also picked up a piece of 2024 T4 aluminum 1/4" thick by 2" wide to remake the ALternator brace that bolts over to the Starter bracket. We made this up Sunday from the supplied piece but we didn't bend it to Joggle to the Starter. Instead we added washers and then thought that maybe this will not be strong enough. Tonight I decided I would practice pounding the old piece to see how hard it would be to bend. A few hard wacks one way then the other way (In the vise) and I got the Joggle just right. Lets see how close we will be so I know how long to make the new one. Hmmm, this one still fits the holes!!! WOW, we never figured this would line up after bending it. I must have streched it out. Oh well call it done. I also removed the crappy Alternator brace that was starting to rust and cleaned it up and gave both pieces a coat of etching primer and high temp black paint. Looks good.
