Brief Description:  Bending the Trim Tab Skins

Today I built the bending brake that is described in Section 5.

I also started bending the trim tab skin. OUCH.

The plans call for bending the skin so that there is a perfectly straight line between the front spar and trailing edge of the trim tab. This sounds easy in theory.

The trouble came when the outer ends of the trim tab bent perfectly but the middle section would spring back. This meant that I'd have to overbend the outer edges to get the middle perfect. (Impossible to do in the brake).

So I tried to massage the trailing edge into shape with my fingers. This turned out being a disaster as the trailing edge is not uniform. It resembles a scallop now. :)

I have posted a question on vansairforce.net to see if anyone has developed a better technique. I'm pretty sure I'll be rebuilding this trim tab. (But I'm not moving on to the other one until I hear some feedback on techniques others have used.)
