Today I riveted the top rib pieces to both skins, the bottom rib to the right skin, the shear clips to the right stiffiners, and started on riveting the stiffiners together. That's about the time I realized I haven't put the trim pushrod fairing on.
The only issue is; I don't have it yet! I've got one on order from Aircraft Spruce. I think it's scheduled to arrive on Wed.
So I'm pretty much hung up waiting on this part to arrive. I could go on to the Horiztontal Stab, but it's not worth dragging out all those parts and junking up the garage. So I'll wait and spend the next couple of days reviewing the Horiz Stab plans.
I also noticed I made a mistake when riveting the stiffiners to skins yesterday. The VANS plans call for AN426AD3-3 rivets and I used 3.5's.
I went back and measured the exposed length of the 3's and the 3.5's. Come to find out, the 3's are just a hair longer than 1.5X rivet diameter. I think the 3.5's will be okay. Fortunately I made a mistake in the right direction - how often does that happen??
We're on hold for a few more days and waiting on Aircraft Spruce to deliver.
Update 11/19/2007: I called Vans just to check on the rivet selection error mentioned above. They said don't worry about it. It's no problem at all. - I was pretty sure it would be okay, but for peace of mind, I went ahead and asked.
