Brief Description:  Attaching the skin to the Vertical Stabilizer

The day got off to a little slower start than I had wanted. I decided to spend some time getting the airplane factory tuned a little better and also working on some tools. I thought it would go quickly but it took much longer than I expected.

The first project was insulating the "loading dock" door. For $20, I got some syrofoam insulation and fit in each door panel. Notice the portable A/C in the lower left corner of the photograph. It doesn't really cool the garage, but it will keep up if the garage is already cool. I'll use fans to blow cold air from inside the house into the garage. That'll cool the garage off, then I'll use the portable A/C to maintain the temp.

The second project involved building some tables for the DRDT-2. I expected that I'd be dimpling today, so I wanted to be ready. (Never got to the dimpling).

I build the table in 3 pieces. There is a center section that stradles the DRDT-2 base. On the wings are tables that can be used for supporting longer pieces. They're light, movable, and I can use them as shelves to store stuff on when they're not in use.

Finally, to the airplane. I drilled #30's through all of the holes holding the skeleton together. I disassembled the VS, deburred, and reassembled.

I retrieved the VS skin and used a soldering iron to remove stripes of vinyl along the rivet lines. I also peel then coating off the inside.

I start fitted the skin to the skeleton. Several of the RV-10 sites metion the RV-10 bump that forms when fitting the skin. This occurs because the nose ribs are too long. The solution is to remove some of the material and shorten them down. Those sites don't make this very clear, so I'll make it clear for you. "If the skins do not go on easily - STOP. You're nose ribs are too long.

I rounded my nose ribs yesterday, but they were STILL too long. I have a very slight bump, but can barely see it when I'm looking at it. So I'm pretty happy with it.

But I'm stoping here. It's been a long day to this point.
