Brief Description: Closed up the rudder and added the nav light
Today I was reminded why I am building an aluminium airplane and not a fiberglass one!
After having Annie help me fit the nose skin on the rudder, she riveted it in place. Nice to have extra hands.
After that it was time to fit the rudder nav light. The fairing is incredibly poorly made! The fiberglass work looks like it was done by a squirrel. The two halfs of the fairing were 1/8" mis-alligned on the "flat reference surface". In addition, the flanges where you are to rivet the piece to the rudder skin are severely rolled up on the edges so that a smooth fit can not be made. I am going to try heating the fairing up with a heat gun to try and re-form the piece. Overall, I have been happy with the quality of the kit except for the fiberglass parts. The elevator tips where just as poorly made.
The rudder is now done until it is mounted on the fuselage.
The Vanna White of rudders! Annie actually riveted the nose skin on.
