Time to start getting started. All other projects are out of the way, except Christmas! After reviewing some of the other designs for work tables on various web sites, I decided that my traditional construction method for the work table was just as good. I have built at least 4 of these table for various projects at work and home (RV-6A and Fokker D-VI were both built on similar tables) and never had any problem with them moving. The construction is 4"x4" legs with 2"x6" frame. The whole thing is bolted together with 3/8" carriage bolts. The bottom storage shelf is 1/2" plywood and the table top is a piece of 3/4" finnish birch plywood. I always seal this layer with urethane and then put a 3/4" sheet of MDF on top to work on so I can drill into it and cleco directly to the table without damaging the bench.Tomorrow I will put the top on, level the bench (my garage is heavily sloped to make water run outside) and seal the top with urethane. After that, it will be time to order the kit for delivery in late January.
