Brief Description: Rudder Ribs and Stiffeners
|
|
Finished up separating the rib parts and deburred the edges. Also got the stiffeners all cut to length.
Picture 1 shows my primary deburring tools: A fine file to knock off the shear marks and oxidized aluminum, followed by a pass or two with a 1" medium scotchbrite wheel on a cheapy die grinder. This leaves beautiful, smooth as silk edges on all the edges that I can reach. Some spots are too tight, and I use needle files to knock off the oxide layer, and get in as best I can with the wheel.
I replaced my old Coleman maintenance-free compressor with this Kobalt from Lowes. Even though the capacity rating is a little lower, it does a great job, and is WAY quieter. The Coleman was really obnoxiously loud, I would never buy another like it.
The rest of my tool setup was also purchased at Lowes, got a great deal on the bandsaw. It was the last on the shelf at the time, and was marked down to $72 from $100. The drill press and sander were $100 each, and they work great so far. All three together were cheaper than my rivet squeezer.
