Manual Reference:  Drilling the HS
Brief Description:  Drilling the Horizontal Stabilizer

As called for by Van's instructions, I started to drill the horizontal stabilizer (HS) holes. I assigned ribs to the left and right sides and marked them my blue Sharpie and Cleco-ed them together to drill the spar attach holes. I deburred the holes after they were drilled. Then the HS skin was Cleco-ed onto the ribs so they could be match drilled. I felt I needed to be careful to clamp properly rib flanges to the skins, but had no problems.

(I will note one thing I like is having two levels for my workbench. I made two carpet-covered 2'x5' MDF boards and clamped one onto a standard height table and a second on top of an entertainment center that also provides me shelves to store parts and tools on. I find I use the higher level bench for a lot of the finishing work.)

I finished the left side before our Thankgiving trip to visit my parents. Then the right side was completed after we returned home. The learning curve is good and steep!
