Brief Description:  Scale Calibration 1

Peformed initial scale calibration as follows:

1. On the advice of a DAR, one of three digital 400 lb capacity scales was taken to the Southern States Cooperative farm store at 500 East South Street, Frederick, Maryland. This store has large-capacity commercial floor scales that are certified for retail sale by the State of Maryland.

2. Using two numbered, filled 6-gallon water bottles plus body weight, the following weights were obtained on the Southern States scales:
- Water bottle 1 = 53 lbs
- Water bottles 1 + 2 = 106 lbs
- Water bottles 1 + 2 + body weight = 339 lbs

3. With the expected nose gear weight of approximately 130 lbs and single main gear weight of approximately 345 lbs, these calibration points will provide reasonable certainty that the expected individual wheel weights are accurate.

4. Using the same weights on the first digital scale, the following weights were obtained:
- Water bottle 1 = 52.2 lbs
- Water bottles 1 + 2 = 105.7 lbs
- Water bottles 1 + 2 + body weight = 338.0 lbs

Note: The resolution of the Southern States scale is 1 lb, whereas my personal scales have a .1 lb resolution. The personal scale was powered down, reset and the above measurements were taken 3 times to ensure repeatability.

5. The above procedure will be used to check calibration on the remaining two digital scales against the one that was calibrated today.
