Brief Description: Fuselage final assembly - nose gear
Installed nose strut and nose landing gear as follows:
1. Reamed lower nose gear mount bushing with a brake cylinder hone until nose strut would slide in.
2. Inserted nose stru so that top bearing surface was centered in the hole at the top of the nose wheel mount. Marked nose strut 3/8" from the bottom of nose gear mount tube. 3. Slide nose strut in until mark was even with the bottom of the nose gear mount tube.
3. Aligned nose strut to vertical and began transfer drill to #11 through the top of the nose strut tube enough to leave a center mark. Removed nose strut and finished drilling on the drill press.
4. Re-inserted nose strut and finished drilling to #11, then transfer drilled to a "D" bit. Finished off by reaming to .024. Removed strut, cleaned and primed.
5. Re-installed strut and bolted in place using a close-tolerance bolt and high-temp nut.
6. Modified nosewheel axle and spacers per Rans manual. Built up tire and wheel, then installed in nose fork.
7. Modifed conical washers per Rans manual and installed nosewheel fork assembly.
8. Adjusted side tension to 8 lbs, drilled #30 cotter pin holes, and installed cotter pin on retaining nut.
