Brief Description:  Windshield & Canopy Continued

Continued windshield and canopy installation as follows:

1. The windshield was temporarily taped to the roll bar and the hold down strip cleco'd in place. The rivnuts had been installed in the roll bar during the week, so the outline of the rivnut flange was traced on the windshield. Not all of the tracings were centered on the 1/8" holes that were drilled the first time around. Also, a line was traced on the inside of the windshield to mark the aft edge of the roll bar. The windshield was removed and the roll bar mounting holes were enlarged to 3/8" with a dremel tool grinder. This worked very well, especially since the grinding bit I used was 3/8" at the largest diameter. The aft edge of the windshield was trimmed using a dremel cut off wheel, then smoothed with a file and palm sander. The windshield was put back on, this time the countersunk machine screws and washers were used for roll bar attachment.

2. The canopy slides were temporarily installed previously. The aft rivet was drilled out and the stop brackets marked to match the existing hole from that rivet. The stop brackets were prepped, primed, painted, and installed. Since the canopy attach strips are taller than the originals, a spacer was needed on the bolt that attaches the bracket to the longeron.

3. The lower canopy trim strips need to be fitted first. Some of the welds on the the outside bottom of the canopy frame needed to be ground down a bit. Starting with the left side, the strip was taped into place and the first hole was drilled to #40.

4. The canopy frame was set in place, the trim strips on the outside of the canopy slides. The width was set to 43.5" across the outside of the slides, The canopy glass was temporarily set in place on the frame to determine height so the slides could be drilled.
