Brief Description:  Air Duct Attachment (49-13)

Today is about as warm as it’s going to get for a while, so turned on the garage heater, opened the door to the house and got everything ready. I did a little final trimming around all the edges and checked the fit a few more times. I also cut the fiberglass strips with a little bit extra so I could cut them down to size later. All I have to do now is remember how I did this before and it should all work out well. The directions call to put the resin/flox mixture into a bag, but I was afraid of the heat with just using a sandwich bag. Fortunately my wife, Cyndi, has taken a cake decorating class and has a bunch of decorating bags. These bags are much thicker than sandwich bags, so with her permission, I used those bags, which worked great. I cut a small hole for the edges when I attached the air duct interface, then cut a larger hole to provide a thicker bead for the flange. For the fiberglass I made a paper template of the width and length I would need. Then I put down a layer of plastic wrap, then fiberglass. Then I mixed up the resin, poured it on the fiberglass, spread it with the squeegee until it was completely soaked, then put down another layer of plastic wrap. The next step was to use my paper template and a roller cutter to cut it down to size. This works well since the fiberglass/resin sheet is captured in a plastic wrap sandwich. Then I just peel off one layer of plastic wrap, wet the area to be applied to with clear resin, then I put down the fiberglass strip. With the plastic wrap on the outside it is easy to reposition or pick up and slide around, without distorting or falling apart. Once in place I only need to remove the outside layer of fiberglass. This all went fairly well with the help of Cyndi…she is used to the system now.
