Brief Description: Fabricating plumb lines for the L Aux Tank
|
|
Today, while the tank is curing up, all riveted together, I decided to bend and flare some plumbing for it. The lines I fabricated will connect the left main tank with the left auxillary tank, so that fuel can be drawn from the aux to the main in flight. There is also a vent line that must be plumbed, as well as the connections through the transfer pump. Since the transfer pump will actually be mounted to a bracket, which is mounted to the spar web, I needed a way to template it's location. This way, I can plum everything while it's easy to reach, and know that the pump will be in the same location on the spar bracket. The way I did that, was I used a sheet of scrap and drilled/clecoed it the to the rib flanges, so that it mimicked the spar web. Then I drilled/clecoed the pump bracket to it and temporarily bolted the pump in place, using non aviation grade hardware. Then I plumbed everythig to fit and then took everything apart. Later, I will cleco the template plate to the existing holes in the spar web, and voila, I can simply match-drill to locate the holes for the bracket!
