Brief Description:  Right Aux Tank Layout

Tonight, I worked some more to get the rib locations, stiffeners and baffle laid out on the right leading edge skin. This will become my right auxillary tank. Some people in the past have gotten new skins from other sources without the pre-punched holes that Vans provides, but I think it's best to use the ones in the kit. Not only are they pre-bent to the shape of the wing (squarely), but they have all the match-drilled holes for connecting to the wing spar. Because I am converting the leading edges into aux tanks, I must strengthen the structure by adding more ribs and also introducing skin stiffeners to support the weight of fuel. Layout of the ribs, spacers etc is difficult because you have to make sure there are no interference problems with existing holes. Not only must I prevent new holes from being drilled too close to existing holes, but I also must make sure the "filled" existing hole rivet tails don't interfere with the ribs or stiffeners. It's a lot of measuring, marking, then re-measuring, but it's better to make sure to get it right now, before drilling.
