Brief Description:  5.25 year update

It's been 5-1/4 years since my first flight. I now have over 400 hours on my Sonex. I've flown it from Boston to Airventure three times (2015, 2016 and 2019). I regularly fly aerobatics (loops, rolls, spins, hammerheads, reverse half cubans, etc.).

The polished skin has held up really well. I was outside at a tie down for 4 years, using wing covers and a canopy cover. I have repolished the wings and tail once, last year. The fuselage can use another polish. But even so, the 6061-T6 aluminum holds up REALLY well to the weather. I'm glad I did not paint the airplane. It saved me at least 20 lbs in paint. If you park outside GET WING COVERS! Not only does it save the finish on the wings, but in cold weather you remove the covers and there is NO frost or snow on the wings.

My AeroVee 2.1 is purring along with no issues. The AeroInjector works perfectly, and I have not reset anything on it in over 4 years.

If I had it to do over again I wouldn't change anything except I'd have put the landing light in the left wing instead of the right. My MGL instruments are all that I need and want. My radio, transponder and ADSB all work perfectly.

I have lots of Sonex videos on my YouTube site, including a video tour of my airplane and all the custom things I did during construction:
