Brief Description:  Right Wing - Finished riveting ribs

Finished riveting ribs #1 and #2, and the rear spar.

When riveting the ribs to the spar web of the inside ribs, I was having a devil of a time getting in under the spar caps. Someone on Sonextalk suggested adding some small nuts on the rivet mandrels to hold the nose of the rivet gun off, but still apply the pressure to the rivet head (picture #1). It worked quite well!

In picture #2 you can see my modified ribs to allow easier access to the flap rod hardware. Unfortunately it was not the #1 rib I was supposed to modify; only the root rib. I had been calling the #1 rib the root rib, even though it really wasn't. Due to my mix up in the term I mistakenly modifed the #1 rib. When I went to install the final ribs tonight and I cleco'd the #1 in place, it finally dawned on my my error. So I simply made the same modification to the root rib, and the #1 rib will simply have an unneeded modification. Maybe the plane will go faster with less weight!

So all the rib riveting is done for the Right Wing. Now I need to skin it, but I don't have the aluminum at the moment, so I will go onto working on the #9 rib & bellcrank for the left wing, and adding the reinforcing to the aft ribs #1 - #4 for the left wing.

Right Wing time for gussets, bellcrank, assembly and riveting: 53.5 hours.
