Brief Description:  Work on Cooling System

49-03: Match-drilled the F-1206A Cooler Box Hinge using a drill press which was a lot easier than using a cordless drill. I still managed to enlarge a couple of holes because I could not position the assembly perfectly flat while drilling.

49-04: After deburring the holes in the hinge, riveted the Cooler Box Face and the hinge to the Firewall Bottom. There were no holes in the firewall to match the holes on the lower part of the Cooler Box Face and had to drill them. Riveted the FF-1204B Upper Cooler Box Rib and the FF-1204C Lower Cooler Box Rib to the firewall bottom and Cooler Box Face. Fabricated the F-1206C Hinge Pin and used it to secure the Cooler Box Door Assembly and safety-wired the pin. Applied red RTV sealant on the cooler box door and closed it tightly against the firewall bottom after applying wax on the firewall. Bolted the EA RV-12 Radiator to the Firewall and Cooler Box Face. There is more than a 1/32 gap between the radiator and the upper rib but will wait for the RTV sealant to dry out before making adjustments to narrow the gap.

49-11: Installed the 886-034 Oil Cooler onto the Oil Cooler Box Assembly and applied red RTV at the prescribed places. Riveted the FF-1213 Oil Cooler Frame Bottom to the Assembly. Not sure why they want AN470AD4-4 rivets at the sides. The space was limited and I could not properly position the cup rivet squeezer over the rivet head. Used flush rivet squeezers and messed up a couple of rivets that I had to drill out and replace.

38-08: Riveted the VA-263 Goose Neck, VA-263C Doubler to the Cowl-12 Oil Door. Match-drilled 1/4 the 2 holes through the Oil Door into the Top Cowl. I could not find the camlocks to complete this step and will probably have to get replacements.
