Was out of town for a week and not able to work on the plane for several days. Today I started work on the Tail Cone. There are several parts that are long and wide. The skins are more than 8 feet long and extend beyond the edge of the work bench. I did not understand what "break" the edges meant and emailed Van's for explanation. The answer was to bend the edges a few degress. This is to allow better fit of the parts when riveting. I tried "breaking" by pressing the edge with a long piece of wood but it was not easy. I also tried rolling the edge with a broom handle duct taped to the skin edge. This was not easy either. I also used a hand seamer with some result, though uneven. I may need to do this again before riveting the skin.
Using the above methods I bent the edges of the Tail Cone Skins (F-1278 Top Skins, F-1280 Side Skins and F-1282 Bottom Right Skin). Also deburred the edges of the skins, Fuselage Frames (F-1208, F-1209 and F-1210A), F-1210C Angle and F-1210B Plate . Fluted the Angle to match the diagram in Page 10-02.
