Brief Description:  Pulled Jabiru 3300A Engine down

To bring this 8 year old engine up to current specification before I start flying it I need to pull it down and send it off for some work. I am getting the work done by CAMIT the orignal manufacturer. Jabiru have a service buliten out strongly suggesting the through bolt nuts be changed and through bolts have been increased in size as well. The main job is to fit 7/16 through bolts requiring the cases to be machined and convert teh engine back to solid value lifters. This engine was about the 100th hydrolic lifter engine. The early hydrolic lifter engine is not well regarded and many changes have been made since to improve on what appears to have been a little bit under engineered change. Anyway going back to solid lifter is seen to be an improvement in simplicity and reliability. Time will tell.

The Jabiru overhaul manual is about 200 pages and describes the process very well. Evey I could follow it. Very comprehensive and well written in my view. Which makes this job much easier. The engine is a work of art being machined from solid aluminium. It looks amazing inside. The 8 years it has been idle had caused a bit of corossion on the cylinder bores and the through bolts (being replaced) has some surface rust. Otherwise looks brand new. The cylinders should hone up OK.
