Brief Description:  Sub panel fabrication

I decided to install my EIS with the screen exposed. Originally I was going to opt to have it remote mounted since the all the information and more is displayed on my EFIS. However, I realized that the EIS is designed to be on when the engine is started, in contrast to the EFIS which is supposed to be switched on AFTER engine start. Since my oil pressure would not be displayed until after turning on the EFIS, I decided it would be best to have an instant display and alarm for oil pressure and temps immediately on (even before) engine start. Plus I have a redundant display for critical engine information should one of the displays go dark. But where to put it?? With the glovebox option, I've run out of panel space.... so... I fabricated a sub panel for the EIS and the NAV radio. After making a poster board mock up, I decided I liked it best mounted between my knees, directly in my line of sight. I tried getting in and out of the plane, closed the door, etc and was satisfied with the location. Next step was to make it out of panel thickness aluminum, mount the ears for the radio tray, and get it securely mounted on the bottom of the panel. Mission accomplished !!
