Brief Description: Wing tip fiberglass
|
|
I am so glad this airplane is not fiberglass!!! The only fiberglass parts are the wingtips.... since I'm doing a custom engine, I do not have the normal fiberglass cowl. I'll have a sheet metal, wrapped cowl. Years ago I dreamed of the sleek, perfect fiberglass kitplanes, but now I realize how much sanding, OCD, and perfection is needed to get it to look even halfway decent. The gel coat was so thin on these tips, that when I primed them, you could see the open basket weave of the fiberglass, it looked terrible. So... I spent time filing and sanding and filling and sanding, priming, repeat to fill the weave and decided to attempt closing the gap where the sheet metal joined the fiberglass.
