Brief Description: Machine Countersink, Dimple, Prime Right Elevator
Today I started by machine countersinking the counterweight for #10 machine screws in my drill press. Earlier I had dimpled the counterbalance skin E-713 to accept the machine screws with a # 10 dimple die. Next I machine countersunk the E-702 elevator spar attach holes for the E-709 root rib so that the elevator horn would sit flush against the structure. I decided to use the NAS 1097 smaller head rivets so the taper would not penetrate all the way through the E-702 spar. I did this by hand using my 100 degree deburring bit until the rivet sat flush. I beveled the inboard and aft edges of E-713 counterbalance skin to allow the elevator skin to transition smoothly over the top of the E-713. I did this using my scotch brite wheel. I deburred all the holes and dimpled where required. I cleaned all the parts, did the alumi-prep acid bath and alodine bath and finally primed the parts. In a couple of days I will be ready to assemble the right elevator.
