Brief Description:  Canopy Frame Fitting

I decided to make some bend templates from picture frame backer board. I cut a rectangle piece 10" wide and 30" long. I laid the template on the canopy deck of the fuselage and drew the profile. I flipped it over and did the same thing on the left side. I then razor cut the lines I had drawn and now I had the left and right slider frame templates. I cut 3 blocks of wood from a 4 X 4 and drilled 2 7/16" holes that would be the center block. I matched drilled the block to my wood working bench and blocked the block to the bench. I wrapped the lower canopy frame rail with tape and placed the frame into the jig. Used a large c-clamp I applied pressure to the center of the frame rail beyond the arc I needed due to the springback quality of chrome-moly. I left it clamped for an hour and then checked against the template and repeated until the canopy rail matched the template. I repeated the process for the other side. DWG 43, section F-F shows the canopy frame rail inset about 1/16" from the fuselage sides. Next will be the bending of the aft and forward frame bows to match the top of the fuselage and roll hoop profiles.
