I looked at the plans and drawings and did not like the way the oil cooler is attached to the back of the engine baffle behind cyliner #4. I decided to mount the oil cooler on the firewall similiar to the Mooney M20J aircraft. I sourced an oil cooler kit with oil cooler, brackets and composite air intake from AIR-FLOW SYSTEMS. I matched drilled the mounting flanges to the flat aluminum side panels. Deburred the holes and riveted. I located the oil cooler to the mount and match drilled the holes for AN3 bolts. I cut the support tubes to fit between the oil cooler flanges. Next, I bolted the oil cooler to the support brackets and located the oil cooler to the lower left corner of the firewall. I marked the firewall for AN3 bolts and drilled the holes. I mock mounted the oil cooler to make sure I cleared the engine mount and back of #4 cylinder. I disassembled the bracket, deburred the holes, primed and painted.
