Brief Description:  Start Riveting Bottom Wing Skin

I did quite a lot of research on various web sights, talked to EAA chapter members and studied Van's manual on how to rivet the bottom W-705-R outboard wing skin. I decided to leave the wing with the leading edge facing down in its wing cradle and use the L pattern for riveting as suggested in Section 7, page 9 in the builders manual. I clecoed the skin to the wing and then studied drawing DWG 12 rivet legend for the various AN426AD-3 rivets to be used. Ihave 2 Tungsten bucking bars and various other steel bars. I set my rivet gun at 35psi as I had used this pressure before for AN426AD-3 rivets. I decided I would do the first 2 vertical rows where the inboard and outboard skins overlap. I started at the top corner, which is the aft spar. I used a step ladder and a piece of safety wire to hold the outboard end of the wing skin out in an arc, which gave me access to the inside of the wing for my hand and bucking bar. I was able to reach through the lightening hole in the rib to access the first few rivets on the inboard side of the rib. As I worked down I could access the wing from the inspection hole by the main spar to reach the remaining rivets. Once I had the inboard first row done I moved to the adjacent row on the outboard side of the rib and bucked about half of those rivets until my arm said stop for the day.
