Brief Description:  Rudder Cable Egress Fairings

I decided to use fairings that I purchased preformed to cover the elliptical slots where the rudder cable exits the aft fuselage. First, I enlarged the holes in the bulkheads for the rudder cable to 5/8" and installed SB625-7 snap bushings as called for in DWG 23. Then I routed the rudder cables F-7121 through the snap bushings and out the egress slot in the aft fuselage. The two fairings are square so I marked and trimmed them to follow the contour of the stamping. I deburred the edges and marked the location for the 7 #40 rivet holes. I drilled and deburred all the holes. Next, I pulled the plastic sleeve tht protects the rudder cable through the egress slot in the fuselage as shown on DWG 27A. I layed the fairing over the egress slot with the plastic tube protruding 1/4" aft of the fairing end. I marked the 7 rivet holes and repeated for the opposite side. I drilled the first hole and then clecoed the fairing in place and drilled the remaining holes using the fairing as a guide. I deburred the holes and proceeded to dimple the fairings and the holes in the fuselage. I riveted the upper holes with AN426AD3 rivets and the lower holes with blind rivets due to access. Last, I installed the MS21919DG6 clamp and hardware as called for in DWG 27A to secure the plastic tube in place.
