The elevator is controlled using two push rods connected from the control column through a bellcrank to the elevator horn. Both push rods are aluminum and need to have threaded rod ends riveted on. The F-790 pushrod is the long one at 81 1/2" long and made from AT6-035 x 1 1/2. I did my usual measure twice and cut once on my band saw. I did the same with the F-789 pushrod cut to 45 15/16". I deburred both rods and cleaned the inside and outside with Dawn detergent using a cloth and stick to push the cloth through the tubes. Once dry I did the same thing with lacquer thinner. I capped one end of poured about 1/2 cup of zinc chromate into the pushrod and capped the end. I sloshed the primer back and forth several times and drained it back into a cup. I did the same for the smaller pushrod. After drying I inserted the aluminum threaded rod ends VA-101 into both ends of the larger F-790 pushrod tube using a rubber mallet. The rod ends are held in place with 8 MSP42 blind rivets on each end. I carefully marked 8 equal distance hole locations around the tube. I drilled the 16 #30 holes, deburred and installed the 16 MSP42 blind rivets. The smaller F-789 pushrod uses AN490HT11P threaded rod ends. I inserted the rod ends and marked for 6 MSP42 blind rivets. I drilled, deburred and riveted.
