Brief Description:  Fabricate Fusalage Fuel Vent Lines

I looked at the drawing on DWG 36A to get an idea of how to route the fuel vent line. First I drilled the holes on both fusalage sides where the vent lines would exit to the wings. I used a step drill bit to bring the holes to 7/16". After deburring I installed the two AN833-4D elbows finger tight. Now I would have to drill two 7/16" holes in the fusalge floor for the actual vents. Instead of using the Van's make your own vents, I purchased a pair of nice anodized billet vents with screens that also have a nice aerodynamic shape. I installed the vents finger tight. Now the hard part, making all the bends in just the right place. First I searched the builder forums for ideas and techniques. I came up with my own idea of using welding rod that was stiff and proceeded to bend the rod to form a template. Next I transferred the bends to the actual 1/4" vent tubing. I went through two attempts with scrap as a result. The third try met with results and fit perfectly. I slipped the fittings on and flared the two ends. Ok, right side done, now the left. Tomorrow.
