After completing the HS attach I spent some time familiarizing myself with how the vertical stabilizer attaches. I had to add some extra squeeze on some of the skin rivets on the aft half of the F-712 bulkhead, and file about 1/16” off the end of the aft deck to allow the VS rear spar to fit against the F-712 bulkhead.
I haven’t yet fabricated the F-711D up elevator stop, so I clamped a square tube to the VS rear spar to set the prescribed vertical position (photo). A first fit check tells me that 3/8” will be a good first cut for trimming the VS front spar.
