Brief Description: Finished Covering the Lower Right Aileron
Marked the tape line over each of the rivet lines on the top of the aileron. Cut a length of tape which fits over the first rivet line. Applied glue between the marked lines for the tape and then applied the tape. Glued the tape to the top of the aileron and wiped with a shop towel. Cut slits in the tape for the hinge and horn openings and fitted to the aileron. Glued the tapes in place as described above. Applied tape along the front of the aileron between the hinges. Applied tape around the left end of the aileron. Measured the length of the trailing edge of the aileron and cut a tape to length. Folded the tape in half and marked the center line. Applied a coat of glue along the trailing edge of the aileron and set aside to dry.
Cut free the tab and thimble from the old cable and installed them on a new length of 3/32 cable with a new ferrule. Bolted the tab to the top of the right forward wing strut. Cut the turnbuckle and thimble from the old cable and installed them on the right lower aft wing strut. Measured the cable to the turnbuckle's thimble plus 2 inches and cut away the excess. Installed a new ferrule and mounted the cable to the turnbuckle. Tensioned the cable. Repeated the process for the left wing struts.
Measured the length of the trailing edge of the aileron and cut the tape to length. Folded the tape in half and marked the center. Mounted the tape to the trailing edge of the aileron by gluing it in place and wiping the excess glue with a shop towel.
Set the iron to 300 degree and slowly ironed the bottom side of the aileron. Turned the top side of the aileron up and ironed that side. Used the smaller iron set at 300 degrees to go over all of the tapes to ensure that the edges were ironed flat. Finished up the trailing edge with the small iron taking care to smoothly finish the curve at the end. End of day.
