Cut two 2 ½ inch sections from a 1 by 1/8 by18 inch steel plate. Ground each edge smooth on both pieces. Clamped each piece on to the end of the tail post extending over the tail wheel pipe. Tig welded each piece in place. Ground the end of the tail post to form the mounting bracket for the tail wheel pipe. Clamped the tail wheel axle in the mounting bracket and ensured that the wheel was aligned directly under the fuselage. Drilled a 3/16 inch hole through the bracket and the axle pipe. Mounted the tail wheel assembly to the fuselage with an AN 3 bolt. Found that the movement of the tail wheel assembly was restricted within the bracket. Removed the tail wheel assembly. Filed the end of the tail post in an arc to provide clearance for the axle to move up without binding. Reinstalled the tail wheel assembly.
