Brief Description:  Mounting of Transponder Case

Climbed into the cockpit with the heat gun and adjustable wrench to remove each of the audio plugs from the instrument panel. The use of lock-tight on the mounting nuts was a mistake. By applying heat I was able to remove the mounting nuts from each of the audio plug. Sanded down the areas on the instrument panel where the paint had been removed trying to remove the nuts on the audio plugs. Taped up the areas around each of the audio plugs mounting holes. Wiped down each area with alcohol. Sprayed painted the left and right sides taking care not to get paint on the instrument panel.

Checked the wiring configuration on the audio plugs and corrected the MIC plug. Using a headset did a radio check. Received audio signals clearly. Tried transmitting without success. Was able to hear a side tone when transmitting but did not receive any replies. This was done inside the hanger which may have limited the transition.

Installed the transponder case into the instrument panel and secured the four screws in the front of the case. Routed the wiring harness up onto the gas tank to await further routing and connections. Formed an L shape bracket about 10 inches long. Installed an anchor nut in one end of the bracket. Mounted the brace onto the case and laid the it across the fuselage brace. The marking and final configuring of the wring harness will have to wait for another day.
