Brief Description: Mounted the VSI and Altimeter Into Instrument Pane
Made a paper template of the face of the VSI. Cut out the face and laid it over the location for the VSI. Marked the bump out on the instrument panel. Used a nibbler to remove most of the material for the bump out and then used a burr wheel to finish the shape. Fitted the VSI into the opening and using a round file finished the fitting of the opening. Mounted the VSI using three #6 screws and lock nuts.
Made a second paper template of the altimeter face. Cut out the face and laid it over the altimeter location and marked the bump out of the instrument panel. Laid the instrument template for the main opening and drilled the mounting holes with a pilot drill. Used the nibbler to remove most of the extra material and then smoothed out with a burr wheel. Fitted the altimeter and adjusted the opening using a round file until the altimeter fitted. Drilled the mounting holes with a 3/16 inch drill for use with #8 screws to complete the mounting.
