Replaced missing 3/16 inch pop rivet from the top of the strut. Cut a 1 1/8 inch piece from a 1/2 by 3 inch oak plank. Cut 1/2 inch off of one end and marked the dimensions of the strut on one side. Removed the wood from around the marked area to a depth of 1/8 inch. Fitted the plug onto the bottom end of the strut and adjusted the depth of the cut for a good fit on the end of the strut. Marked the ends of the plug at the dimensions needed for a firm fit to the cross bar. Used a 1 1/8 inch hole saw to cut the length of the plug to fit over the cross brace.
Repeated the process for the top of the strut using the necessary dimensions for that end. Set the strut aside for installation later.
Measured the roll of walnut veneer to the instrument panel and marked the edge. Cut the veneer at the mark and set aside. Cleaned the instrument panel and sprayed on a coat of contact cement. Rolled out the veneer with the wood side down and anchored each end. Applied contact cement and left to dry.
