Brief Description:  Final leg of the return trip

Once home, I slid the kit off the trailer and tucked it away in the garage for the winter. I was not actually ready for the kit. I still needed to do some wiring, insulation, drywall and painting the inside of my garage before I would be ready to start construction of the plane. I also needed to do a better job of organizing the boxes, put up shelves and make a storage area in the attic of the garage. That took all winter and by spring time I was ready to begin construction of the Bearhawk.

I'm sure at this point you may be saying something like, "What a knuckle-head, he should have transported the kit (fill in transport mode).” Here is why I ended up doing it this way. One, the kit is not forkliftable so rail and truck freight won’t work. The cost per mile from the guy that does this for Avipro would have been about as much as I spent but, just like rail and truck freight, I could not look over the kit to make sure I was getting my money’s worth. That left me with the fly out, rent a U-Haul and drive back scheme and the method I used. The U-Haul method was about 25% more expensive when I got my quote. So I cheaped out and used the car trailer. It is true that I almost lost the will to live on the return trip but am now a better person. After all, if it doesn’t kill you it makes you stronger. Or at least gives you an interesting story to tell. One thing of note. When I priced the U-Haul method I was going to be picking the trailer up at the end of Aug. If I would have picked it up a few days later I would have been under the off-peak rental rates and it would have been less expensive to go that route. I didn't figure that out until after I returned. “It made me stronger, it made me stronger, it made me stronger….”
