Brief Description:  Heat control and battery box

I got three things done this evening. First, I painted the battery box. I bought some high temperature paint at the auto store and shot a coat on the box. (I was not very happy how the paint came out... I like to mist pieces and the paint came out faster than I prefer. Usually, I can shake the can enough to atomize it. But not with this paint.)

Next, I measured where some of the holes come through the firewall. I measured them all once, went to a meeting for a few hours and re-measured them with a new set of eyes. Why is it when I measure things a few times the measurements are correct. When I measure just once... it's wrong.

I picked up a 2 inch hole saw at the hardware store for the heat control unit. But, I didn't have a 1/2 inch drill for the mandrel. After thinking about it a bit, I cut the hole with a 1 1/2 inch hole saw. (I have a REALLY nice 1 1/2 inch hole saw and I was worried about using the one I bought on the stainless steel firewall. (I thought I might cook it.) I clamped a piece of wood on the back of the firewall so the pilot hole wouldn't wander and so the skin wouldn't tear as the hole saw broke through. (I figured if the 1 1/2 didn't work, I could always use the wood for another pilot hole.

After cutting the hole, I used a drill mounted small grinding wheel to enlarge the hole to 2 inches. It ended up working just like I thought.

I then drilled the two holes for the heat control attachment bolts. The head control box is pretty slick. When the door is open, all of the heat comes into the cabin. When it's closed, the heat just dumps into the engine compartment.
