Brief Description:  Right Gear Leg Socket

Dad helped with the drilling and fitting of the right gear leg socket. First, I drilled the bolt that holds the gear leg on. (Both gear sockets) Then started the process of drilling the hole for the socket. AGH!! Drilling a hole in the fuselage is scary! After taping the pattern on the fuselage and checking everything about 10 times, I drilled a hole. I started with a 1 1/2 inch hole and kept making it a bit larger. We kept fitting the socket and it wouldn't slide in. I ended up making the hole a bit too large because we couldn't get the thing in. Come to find out, there was a bolt in the way. After removing it, the leg socket slid right in. There is a gap between the socket and the fuselage. I'm planning on putting the other leg on tomorrow and seeing if there is a gap there as well. Then, Monday I'll give Van's a call.
