Brief Description:  Rudder alignment

I started out the day aligning the rudder on the vertical stabilizer. I am getting ready to attach the vertical stabilizer and thought I should get the rudder alignment close before proceeding.

I had attached the rudder earlier, but just popped it on to see how it looked. I went back to the plans and set each rod end bearing as close as possible to the specs. Then, tried installing the pins. (I am sure glad I purchased the quick pins from Avery. I had the rudder on and off 20 times!) I started out setting the top and bottom pins then checking the middle bearing. The goal was to have the pin slide in. It sounds much easier than it is! When I got it super close, I ended up setting the top and middle hinges and adjusting the bottom one.

I'm sure I'm going to have to redo them after the vertical stabilizer is attached, but they fit perfectly now!
