Brief Description:  Left wingtip strips and nutplates; lens fit to rig

Installed the strips and nutplates in the left wingtip as was done yesterday,

Installed nutplates in the top and bottom "corners" of the light cutout in the right tip. First fit the lens on tight (I trimmed them several years ago) and held it in place with blue tape, then drilled #40 thru the lens into the previously marked spot on the ledge of the light cutout. Removed the lens, clecoed nutplates through their centers, and match drilled the lugs. Removed the platenuts and drilled out center hole to #28, No csnk needed for the center hole (the lens material will be csnk for a #6 Tinnerman stnls washer).

Clecoed the nutplates back in place and ran a cad-plated steel #6 screw into place. Removed the clecos one at a time, and drilled out the lug holes to #30 so I could use pull rivets. After countersinking manually with a 100 deg deburring bit, pulled the flush rivets into place.

Could now put the lens back on with #40 clecos holding it in place through the #6 nutplates, but also taped the lens edges to the tip again to make sure nothing moved. I gently opened up the #40 holes in the lens to #30 then #28, and then machine countersunk with the #28 piloted csnk bit. The Tinnermans fit into the csnks, and having been run through with a cad-steel screw before, stainless #6 screws went into the nutplates easily. These little #6 screws still need to be driven by hand to avoid cam-out that comes from a moments inattention with a drill-driver.

Brought the left wingtip home to have its strips cure in warm surrounds.
