Brief Description:  Leading Edge Skin Riveting

First, I tried wrapping tie down straps around the outboard leading edge skin, but that method left a small gap (less that 1/16") between the rib and the skin for a short distance past the leading edge on the underside. So, I wenrt to the method recommeded on the Cubcraftrs forum under Mitch's Tips. That method is to clamp blocks to the leading edge (underside) with Vicegrip 6-SP pliers. Then one end of the strap is hookd around the aft spar. The skin is then pulled tight around the nose ribs. Unfortunately, when I riveted the top of the skins, I managed to get the second skin too far inboard so the flange on the underside of the skin hit the ribs, so I had to release the clamps to modify the skins to fit. Once the skins were reworked, then it was a matter of drilling, deburring, and pulling the bottom skin rivets. The second skin is in place now, so the riveting is next. The rivets can all be placed in one skin except the rivet where the skins overlap. There it is necessary to wasit until the netx inboard skin is pulled in place and riveted. The same process follows along the wing. As per usual, the left wing is where I'm learning the correct procedures. The right wing ahould be faster and better.
