Since I’ve never officially “closed out” my build log, I decided to add a couple of updates. While the primary purpose of this log was to document for the FAA that I actually built this airplane (done), a secondary (and perhaps more useful) purpose was to maintain a searchable archive of my build activities to reference over time. That feature proved most useful in this case.
Over the 10 months I have been flying the aircraft, I have been dealing with an intermittent #2 radio. I have checked and double checked the power and ground connections, been in routine contact with Garmin, and generally frustrated by my inability to solve the issue. I finally deduced that the problem must be in the CAN bus used in the G3X touch system, and was prepared to re-wire the entire bus at the time I did the condition inspection. An hour of research through my photos, wiring diagrams, and this log, alerted me to the possibility that I had an issue in the CAN bus splice at the #1 radio. Boy, did I ever.
Details are in the next entry, but suffice it to say that you can never document too much.
