Brief Description:  Provision for a Plastic Conduit Wireway

I am not planning to add landing, taxi, position or strobe lights in the wings because I fly only daytime VFR. However, I will be selling this plane sometime in the future, and I believe it will be easier to sell if a wireway is in place in the wings to facilitate the addition of the light wires. So, I am adding a single length of ½” plastic conduit through the wings. This will be positioned midway between the front and center lightening holes in the main ribs, about 1-3/8” from the bottom of the rib.

To insure all the holes were in the same position on each rib, a simple wood fixture was fabricated to fit snuggly inside the rib with a ¼” wood dowel that fit into the front tooling hole in the rib. A ¼” pilot hole is drilled through a hole in the fixture, through the rib. This hole is then opened up to ¾” using step-drills. After the hole is deburred, a 5/8” I.D. plastic snap bushing is snapped into the hole, providing a snug fit for the ½” plastic conduit. The conduit will extend through all of the ribs.

Rib centerline marking and minor rib straightening was completed on a some of the left wing ribs.
